Hi! this is Fran

I am a Costa Rican photographer. I grew up in a small town surrounded by mountains, far from the city. Ever since I was little, I was a creative child. I loved playing with Barbies, but back then, I couldn’t afford accessories, clothes, or furniture for them. So, I would make furniture out of cardboard and hand-sew outfits using leftover fabric.

Growing up in a rural area made it difficult to access any kind of artistic education. And because of the stigma surrounding creative careers in society, I ended up enrolling in an engineering program at university. However, it didn’t take long for me to realize that art was what truly set my heart on fire.

Some time later, I decided to buy my first DSLR camera—a small Nikon D3400—which became my paintbrush and my most loyal companion during difficult times in my life. I started by taking self-portraits since it was the most accessible option for me at the time, and I began posting my photos on Instagram.

Little by little, people started noticing my work and before I knew it, photography had become my full-time job.

What I love...

I’m a lover of dogs, books, magical stories, fantasy, nature, traveling and coffee.

I love photographing people because it makes me happy to think that, years from now, they’ll cherish those photos as priceless treasures.

A few years ago, I lost my sweet dog, Bella. Since then, I promised myself to only do what I love and what truly excites me because Bella taught me that life is too short not to follow your passion.

I grew up in a rural coffee-farming area, and I know the entire process behind a great cup of coffee. That makes me incredibly proud of my roots and the land that raised me.

Fun facts about me...

I’ve read The Little Prince more than ten times, and I keep coming back to it because it’s a book that changes perspective depending on my age and the stage of life I’m in.

I love trying out new hobbies, but my favorite thing is transforming things. My family always brings me furniture, clothes, or random objects they no longer want because they know I’ll probably turn them into something new.

Most of the furniture in my home has been rebuilt, painted, or modified by me in some way. I also love going to hardware stores just to browse tools and construction materials.

Creating my own photography sets excites me. I’ve been making my own Christmas sets for four years now. Each year has a different theme, and I love making the furniture and props myself—whenever time allows.

Losing my dog, Bella, was a huge heartbreak for me. A year later, my maternal grandfather also passed away, and after that, returning to social media was really difficult. I constantly work on my emotional well-being, and over the years, I’ve learned that to do my job well, I need to take care of myself first. That’s why everything I do in my photography business is done at my own pace and with tons of love.

My photography style

Although I specialize in portraits and documentary wedding photography—which I love—my greatest passion is Fine Art photography. I enjoy creating concepts and capturing emotions through my images.

I describe my photography style as magical, feminine, and authentic. I love experimenting with colors, but at the same time, I have a deep appreciation for black-and-white photography. I refuse to stick to just one editing style because I believe every photo tells its own story.
